Welcome to my webpage. I am a Person-Centred Psychotherapeutic Counsellor and an accredited member of the National Counselling Society (NCS). I have experience with a wide range of issues including low self-esteem, low confidence, anxiety, relationship issues, abuse, bereavement and grief, work pressures, bullying, depression and military service family life pressures.
I also currently volunteer at a charity offering counselling and support to children and young adults with a variety issues, from general anxiety issues to sexual abuse.
What is counselling and how can it help?:
Communicating through language is an innate human ability. Our ability to speak helps us to achieve almost everything in life. We are by nature social, and our ability to communicate with one another is fundamentally important to all that we do and all we achieve together. Counselling taps into this, as our ability to speak to each other can also help us to heal. The simple act of voicing our concerns can have a therapeutic affect. At times we have to discuss how we feel to realise why we are feeling the way we do. Fresh perspectives on a troubling past can be seen, fresh paths for a new beginning today can be forged and fresh inspiration for a new tomorrow can be found, through the simple act of talking. Talking to someone is not a sign of weakness, it is simply doing what you have been designed to do, in order to heal, in order to progress, in order to live the life you want to live. Of course sometimes it can be difficult to talk to those who are close to us as we fear being judged or fear that we could place unnecessary burdens upon them, or sometimes there just isn't the right opportunity.
What I offer is a safe, welcoming and confidential place to explore whatever issues are troubling you. I offer Person-Centred counselling; this means that I am non-judgemental and I won’t tell you what to do. The counselling will move at your pace and you will always be in control of the sessions. I will, however, provide understanding, empathy, acceptance and warmth, help you to reflect on your troubles and help you to see things from a fresh perspective. Together we will explore the things that are troubling you, to help you to gain insights into your situation.
Counselling is designed to reveal to you the tools you already posses, to build up your self-confidence and self-esteem and empower you to find a way towards self-healing and personal growth. There are some things in life that cannot be changed, but we can alter the way we feel about them; our journey together will help you manage your emotions around these experiences in a more positive way. I am bound by confidentiality in our sessions, so you can feel free to talk openly and know all that is said will remain confidential.
